We were delighted to be approached by PramaLife to collaborate on the Access Wellbeing Hub, an inspiring initiative located on the first floor of The Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole. This exceptional space provides invaluable support and guidance on mental health, emotional wellbeing, social connection, bereavement, and practical issues like work, housing, and finances.
Having previously worked with Lucy from Studio Sempura, we were excited to join forces again. Lucy’s technical expertise and design ethos seamlessly align with Studio Trevow’s approach, enabling us to tackle the project's unique challenges together.
The Hub is a multifunctional space hosting various agencies and organisations, each with specific requirements. Working within the constraints of the existing retail unit and managing funding and budget discussions were key challenges. Our goal was to transform the space into a warm, inviting environment distinct from clinical settings. We aimed to ensure durability and accessibility, meeting the needs of individuals with additional physical and medical requirements, while also providing private and group areas.
Key design features include a coral-toned bookcase that welcomes visitors and offers privacy, enhancing the biophilic design with curated plants. Acoustic panels provide sound control and screen consultation rooms, defining seating areas and inviting conversation.
We introduced comfortable, flexible seating with upholstered chairs and stools, contributing to both acoustics and the homely feel of the space. A larger table facilitates informal meetings and offers ample workspace for various agents.
Overall, the design of the Access Wellbeing Hub reflects our commitment to creating a nurturing, supportive environment tailored to the community's needs.
